Jane W. Nall

Jane Weaver Nall, 94, of Memphis died Wednesday night on July 28, 2010 at her home. She was born on December 28, 1915 in Wilkinsburg, PA, and she was the Widow of Henry Clay Nall, III a long time Memphian to whom she was married for 63 years. Mrs. Nall was an eighth generation Pennsylvanian. Her parents were Lt. Col. William Kean Weaver, Jr., USA (Ret.) and Mrs. Charlotte Barr Weaver. Mrs. Nall had been a Memphian since 1945. Mrs. Nall was a graduate of Towson University in Maryland. Mrs. Nall was from an illustrious military family and her family and forbears served in every war in which our country fought from Captain Henry Weaver in the Revolutionary War to the Iraq War. She, her husband, Henry, her father and brother also served their country in the Army in World War II. Mrs. Nall taught school, served as a volunteer in the American Red Cross, and worked for the Department of Defense. As World War II was approaching, she joined the Woman’s Army Corps (WAC) and served as a First Lieutenant in the Military District of Washington in Fort Belvoir, VA.She and her husband met and married during World War II. He also was a Lieutenant in the Army. They were married in the Chapel at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. he was a member of the Watauga Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution, Les Passees Club, LeBonheur Club, the Les Passees Fine Arts Club, and the Bookmarkers Club. She was on the board of LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and the Beautification Chairwoman of the East Parkway Association. She was a member of Bible Study Fellowship and was one of the founders of the Independent Presbyterian Church. She was a long time member of First Evangelical Church where she was active in the Soltau-Morrow-Stevens Sunday School and Triple L’s Senior Group. Jane Nall is survived by her daughter, Mrs. A. Eugene (Robin) Smith of Memphis and her husband Gene. She is also survived by her son, Henry Clay Nall, IV of Memphis and his wife Marsha. She had seven grandchildren, Charlotte Smith Hullender, Rachel Smith Anderson, Rebecca Smith, Sarah Nall Sapp, Jessica Nall Wright, Ruth Nall Blackburn, and David Henry Nall. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Her two sisters and brother have survived her, Virginia Rumpf, Jr. of Winter Park, FL, Nancy Saunders of New Oxford, PA, and her brother, William Kean Weaver, III of Dunedin, FL. A special thanks goes to At home Quality Care and Emma Brown who tirelessly cared for Jane Nall, also to Crossroads Hospice who tended to Mrs. Nall at the end. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Elmwood Chapel in Elmwood Cemetery with Funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Internment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Ms. Felicia S. Foster-Smith, 30 departed this life Wednesday July 21,2010 at Methodist University Hospital. Felicia leave to cherish her loving memory parents, Robert and Vanessa Smith; one brother, Andrew Earl Smith; grandmother, Peggy Foster; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Alice “Connie” Kennedy Powers, 64 of Cordova passed peacefully at home on Sunday July 25, 2010. Connie fought a long courageous battle with cancer. She leaves her loving, devoted husband, Bill Powers; two daughters: Amy Todd (Wade) of Nashville, TN and Angie Taylor (Ric) of Memphis, TN; two stepchildren: Susan Powers of Lexington, KY and Tom Powers (Jennifer) of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren she adored: Nelson, Victoria, and Alexis Taylor, Lauren, Gabrielle, and Isaac Todd, Landon and Avery Powers. She is survived by two brothers: Jay Kennedy and Bill Kennedy and two sisters; Jodi Reed and Jeannie McMahon. Connie also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Amelia Kennedy. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 31 at Hope Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Any memorials can be made to Wings Cancer Foundation or Crossroads Hospice.

ALBERT SANDERS, 82, of Memphis, retired from the Memphis Housing Authority, died July 27, 2010. Visitation will be at Pentecostal Church Of God In Christ, Friday, July 30 from 6-8 p.m. Services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, July 31 at Golden Gate Cathedral, with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by five sisters. He leaves his wife, Alice Sanders; three daughters, three sons, and several grandchildren. J.O. Patterson Mortuary
