Elmwood Cemetery is a Level III arboretum, which means visitors will find 90 different species of trees on the property, some of which are tagged and identified. Several times a year, Elmwood staff offers a Tree Tour of the grounds. The trees that grace our landscape offer beauty, shade for visitors, and homes for birds, and sometimes the bees. We encourage you to add to the collection by purchasing a tree to be planted late each year.

Trees are sourced locally and will not be accepted from private collections.

To plant a tree, please contact Kim Bearden at kim@elmwoodcemetery.org. Please include the name of the tree you wish to purchase, your phone number, if the tree is being planted to memorialize or honor someone, and their name. 

 

All trees ordered until December 15th, 2022, will be included in the winter 2022-2023 planting period.

For our 170th anniversary year, Elmwood Cemetery is offering White oaks and Red oaks for $250. 

Princeton elm, tulip poplar, and Brackens Brown Beauty magnolia - $500

American holly, Chinese pistache, cedar, kwanzan or yoshino cherry, sycamore, maple, star or saucer magnolia - $300

Loblolly pine, possumhaw, sourwood - $200

 

Please read the following before purchasing a tree:

All trees are planted in accordance with Elmwood Cemetery's long-range planting needs. We cannot guarantee that trees will be planted near a requested site. 

Maps to the location of your tree will be published on this website. 

Elmwood Cemetery does not allow memorial plaques, windchimes, or any adornment to be attached to trees.

Elmwood Cemetery will not guarantee the survival of any tree not indigenous to Zone 7b

Elmwood Cemetery is no longer planting crape myrtles, dogwoods, or willows. 

Because of supply chain issues, Elmwood Cemetery may not be able to guarantee that your choice of tree will be available. In this event, staff will consult with you on a second choice.
