There and Gone: A History of Working for the Dead

"The past is never dead. It's not even past." --William Faulkner

Early Greek philosophers pondered why it is that we bury our dead with great care and reverence. The dead are our history, but at the same time, they are still with us. That’s where this presentation begins.

Cemeteries, cremation, charnel houses, catacombs, pyramids, and more – we’re taking a trip through time (way, way back, in fact) for this 45 minute presentation, given by the Executive Director of historic Elmwood Cemetery, Kim Bearden.

This presentation takes place in the Lord's Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery. We'll get started at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 17th. Light refreshments will be served.

The cost is $20 per person. All proceeds support the maintenance of the most beautiful cemetery in Memphis, historic Elmwood Cemetery.
