Gale Reeves describes her passion for photography as aspiring to capture frames of existence and moments in time. Her images have progressed through film and digital, but most recently back to the timeless beauty of film. A University of Tennessee at Martin graduate, her accounting background has led her through a career in private practice, and, for the past seventeen years, as the controller at Roadshow BMW MINI in Memphis.
Growing up in rural northwest Tennessee, Gale refers to herself as a simple farm girl who feels most at peace standing in the middle of a field; thus, her love of the land and her respect for nature find her constantly looking for the light. She recognizes that the simplest element takes on immense beauty when illuminated by light. Her motto as she photographs Elmwood Cemetery is, ‘look what we might have missed had we not taken a closer look!’
Gale lives in downtown Memphis and is inspired by the daily cycle of life, sunrise to sunset and through the night. She finds watching the ever changing rolling waters of the Mississippi River both a visual experience and, at times, a breathtakingly beautiful holy moment.
